Carpet right up to the wall under the fireplace.
Do you put wood flooring up to fireplace.
Place a scrap section of hardwood flooring and a piece of the underlayment you will be using on the subfloor flush against the fireplace where it meets the floor.
Both paneling and thin wood boards work well to cover the existing fireplace.
The boards go over the subfloor you put the groove and tongue ends together tap them together and nail the boards to the floor.
Note this was a dedicated gas unit not something that could be converted to wood and was installed in the wall about 18 24 above the floor.
I think it would look nice as we just redid the basement bathroom with the same flooring and it came out very nice.
There are a few ways to do this and i explain all of them.
It is easier to do if it is a new install than cutting into existing flooring.
Right next to a fireplace there could be some in floor heating wires that stick up from the subfloor and a curved hearth of the fireplace to contend with image 1.
I m wondering if i can put wood vinyl plank in front of the fireplace 4 x6 area.
Unfortunately inexperienced installers will handle it this way either because they do not know of other solutions or don t care to handle it any other way.
There s a bit more to it but that s the basic process.
Tricky cut on a table saw though.
In this video i will show you how to install laminate or vinyl plank up to a fireplace.
If yours is a more traditional down near the floor thing or could ever be converted to wood i m sure you need a hearth.
It s a nice finished basement with cream colored carpet but doesn t have much else going for it.
Mark the underside of the board where the wires hit and put tape on top of the board to show where to make the cut image 2.
It can get tricky if you re laying hardwood floors around a brick fireplace.
Installing hardwood moldings around fireplace hearths has never been an attractive solution for covering up those gaps.
Miter the corners at 45 degrees.
It can be at a 10 to 15 degree pitch with the high side of the pitch being next to the hearth.
It is also low profile.
Does anybody have any experience with this.
