I ve had vinyl floors in my kitchen for over 2 years now and none of the kitchen appliances have damaged the floor.
Double sided tape can be used under the floor to help seams stay put but no adhesive is spread over every square inch of the subfloor.
Seal the edges of a piece of 3 by 3 foot plastic sheeting onto the floor with duct tape.
