When chosen correctly an area rug can enhance your carpeted space.
Do you put an area rug on carpet.
The extent to which it will move will depend on the style of carpet that is underneath the rug and the type of backing of the area rug.
As i stated above it never really works.
Don t put an area rug over a very long pile carpet such as a frieze or a newer soft carpet such as smartstrand because the area rug will not have firm support and will shift buckle and wrinkle.
On a hard floor an untethered rug is more likely to slide or slip but when layering area rugs over carpet the rug is more likely to wrinkle or ripple.
Better luck if it is a very short loop like an indoor outdoor carpet you are putting it on even a berber will give as you walk on in and make the upper rug buckle.
If there is a pile at all on the rug don t use.
Rugs should always be anchored whether used on a hardwood floor or on top of carpet.
The binding only keeps the carpet from unraveling.
If you never walk in the room or move furniture if it is just to look at as in magazine.
